Can I continue my skincare treatments while I am pregnant?

QUESTION ONE

While I always err on the side of caution and asking my patients to have their OBGYN sign off on any kind of treatment (ultimately they are the ones who are in charge of you for the next 9 months), skincare treatments are generally safe during pregnancy. There are things that we know that you can't do while pregnant, such as, Vitamin A (and anything that falls under that), as we believe that it travels into the bloodstream and thus to the baby. Salicylic acid was once also on the list of "can'ts" but that may have softened over time. Also, because numbing cream is believed to travel into the blood stream, it is best to steer clear of any treatment requiring you to numb such as microneedling, laser, etc.  Beyond that, dermaplaning, superficial peels, microdermabrasion and general skin maintenance are all considered perfectly safe.
